Have you ever been so deep into something that you couldn’t see the way out? That’s how I feel about my past. And yet, despite being so deeply entrenched in it, the universe keeps telling me that I need to deal with it. Don’t you just hate it when the universe keeps giving you the same message (that you’re trying to avoid) repeatedly? But I realize that I can’t ignore the universe forever, so at our Savvy Success Summit in January 2019, I opened up about my past…and the universe came back and said, “good job…but not enough…keep going.” Which is sort of an interesting message given that the story of my past is that of “Not Enough.”
In a room full of powerful, inspirational, women leaders, I asked who among them had ever felt “not enough” in their lives. And an amazing thing happened. Every single woman in that room raised her hand and proudly owned up to her own feelings of not enough. And I felt so blessed and loved and so very much “enough” in the space held by each and every one of them. Thank you to those beautiful women…and to all of you out there who are also holding space for those of us who may be struggling with our “not enough” today.
This all came up for me after a series of events, but the final straw was when Ginger and Heather asked me to tell my origin story of how I came to be the CEO of Savvy Boss Lady. At first, I think they merely intended for me to tell the story of how the idea for Savvy Boss Lady was finally realized. However, that’s not what hit me when they asked me to tell my origin story. What hit me was MY origin story; how I came to be the person that I am today. And THAT story was much harder for me to imagine telling…let alone in a room full of accomplished business women. But the signs had been clear for a while, and I decided to embrace the idea and go for it. I am so very happy that I did.
If you’d like to read about my origin story, you can do that here. For today, I just want to say that it is ok to have a past. It is ok to be sad about some of the things that may have happened in your past. But at the end of the day, your past brought you to your present…and today is a beautiful and wonderful gift for you to share with those around you. Don’t get lost in your past like I was. Learn to let go, because freeing yourself from the weight of your past will allow you to rise to unimaginable heights.
